BY TRAIN
- The closest station is Gumma-Sōja Station on the JR Agatsuma and Joetsu lines. Matoi Hostel is a 25 minute walk from Gunma-Soja, or a 6 minute drive. We can pick you up from the station–see below for details.
Travel time to Gumma-Sōja Station by express and bullet train:
From Tokyo: 1 hour 15 minutes
From Haneda Airport: 2 hours
From Narita Airport: 2.5 hours
Gunma-Soja is also accessible by train from Nikko, Nagano, and Kanazawa within 2.5 hrs
For routes, we recommend using Google Maps public transit directions.
Fast routes will involve taking the bullet train from Tokyo to Takasaki Station. From Takasaki, switch to a local JR Agatsuma Line or Joetsu Line train and ride 15 minutes to Gunma-Soja.
For a cheaper option, try catching a local, rapid, or normal express train from Shinjuku or Shibuya on the Shonan-Shinjuku Line. OR from Ueno or Tokyo on the Takasaki Line or Ueno-Tokyo Line. Ride to Takasaki or Shim-Maebashi and switch from there. It will add about an hour to your trip, but save you ￥2000.

- We are located 10 minutes by car from the Maebashi IC on the Kan-etsu Expressway.

PICK UP SERVICE
From Gunma-Soja Station
We offer a free pickup and drop-off service from Gunma-Soja Station, available when you arrive and when you checkout. Please note in your reservation if you’d like to use the service and around when you plan to arrive. When you get to the station, give us a call or send us a message on WhatsApp and one of our staff will pick you up.
From Takasaki Station - Daruma Pass
We offer pickup from Takasaki Station as part of our Daruma Pass, an option you can add to your reservation for a small fee. (Takasaki is the station with the easiest access from Tokyo and airports.) Please note in your reservation if you’d like to use the service and what time you plan to arrive. We need at least 1 day advance notice to reserve your pickup.
Pickup times: 10:30 AM, 5:00 PM
Price: ￥2200
Includes: 1 pickup from and 1 drop-off to Takasaki Station; 1 free fresh-brewed coffee or soft drink anytime during your stay; participation in 1 Fifteen Minute Tour during your stay.
