onsen paradise

2023/06/07 [Wed]

hello there, Quentin RICHON here, new member of the staff .

I come from france and i am in japan for one year with a working holiday visa. it is already 8 month since i came in Japan.

I stop myself in Gunma prefecture because of the beautiful scenery of the country side of Japan and because i heard it was a paradise for onsen . And indeed it is !

I already went to the small onsen town of IKAHO onsen , with the 365 steps to walk if you want to go up to the temple. And if you take a small street behind the temple , you will end up in front of a beautiful traditionnal bridge. And a bit further there is a open air onsen that was a perfect plan after the Mizusawa hike! What a lovely town .

I went to KUSATSU onsen as well and i think it is my favorite onsen town for the moment in Japan. Yubatake is so an interesting place, you can watch the hot spring cool down there and you have to go there by night too because of the illumination. You can also enjoy the traditionnal dance of yumomi. I went hiking there and it was fabulous but a bit scary at the same time because of the signs you may read during the hike that tell you the area is infested by bear… but when you end up in a ashiyu ( feet onsen) after a hike , there is not better feeling !

I recommend to everyone who are nature lover to come in Gunma to enjoy good hike and good onsen like i did. And during your way to Kusatsu onsen why not take a stop at MATOI Hostel and Bar to enjoy a beautiful night here.
