A very special guest came to the cafe today. Her name is Ito and she operates a takoyaki stand in the neighborhood called Benten. What, you might ask, is takoyaki? It’s a savory pancake ball filled with octopus. Although it’s originally from Osaka, you can find it all over Japan. It’s one of my favorite foods!
But Ms. Ito’s takoyaki stand is not just any old food stand. When she’s not making and serving food, she puts on an octopus hat and dances outside. She’s been interviewed by the local news recently and the line outside her shop never ends. Energetic and humble, she was so much fun when she came by for lunch today. I hope I get the chance to stop by her shop soon.
