Hi Y’all, Jorge here! I’m back with another tale from my spicy culinary journey. If you missed Part 1 where I talked about curry, you can check it out here. Now, let’s dive into my latest adventure with CocoIchi’s new spice levels!
Ever since I heard CocoIchi’s spice levels now go up to 20—twice as spicy as a 10 and a whopping 48 times spicier than their level 1—I knew I had to try it. Despite my concerns about wrecking my stomach, I was up for the challenge. To prepare, I ordered a glass of milk and was ready to get some ice cream if things got too intense.
To mix things up, I decided to try their limited-time omelet rice curry. When it arrived, I was shocked. Instead of the usual watery curry sauce that mixes well with rice, this sauce looked more like sludge. It was clear that all the extra spice had altered the sauce’s appearance drastically.
Initially, I thought I should take it slow and start with level 15. But, throwing caution to the wind, I decided to go all-in with level 20. As I took my first bite, I braced for the worst. Surprisingly, it wasn’t as bad as I had feared. It felt similar to the first time I tried level 10, with the heat coming and going in waves.
I took it slow, being careful not to eat too much at once to avoid any potential stomach pain. The flavor, unfortunately, suffered due to the sludge-like consistency of the sauce. But I pressed on and finished the meal. While it wasn’t flavorful at all, I was proud of myself for completing the challenge.
Would I order level 20 again? Maybe, but I’ll likely stick to level 10, which still has some flavor. In the end, I drank the milk more as a precaution for any future stomach pain. Thanks to my cautious approach, I managed to finish the meal without sweating too much or feeling nauseous.
What spice level would you order? Would you ever challenge the beast that is level 20? Maybe 10 is your limit, or perhaps you think there’s no point in ordering anything that spicy if it’s just going to be painful. While that might be true, I still recommend getting used to spicy foods. Some are incredibly flavorful and can enhance your meal. It had been nearly a year since I last ate at CocoIchi, so I was a bit worried my spice tolerance might have decreased. Remember, building up your spice tolerance takes time and practice.
Happy spicing! 🌶️
