S-snow???? Oh no!

2025/02/08 [Sat]

Hey everyone, Jorge here! How have you all been this week? Had any fun? It’s been a while since our Setsubun event, and now we have Valentine’s Day just around the corner. Exciting, isn’t it? I’m really looking forward to the events we have this month. They should be quite enjoyable if we get lots of customers to join us.

Weekend Plans
For many of you, it’s the weekend now. Do you have any plans? Prepping for Valentine’s Day, perhaps? Or just relaxing? By the way, have you taken a moment to look out the window? This morning was quite a surprise—it was snowing! Well, maybe depending on the area you’re in. The forecast said it was snowing in Takasaki. Technically, I live in the Takasaki area, closer to Maebashi. Sometimes, my local weather forecast says it’s snowing or raining, but when I look outside, it’s a clear day! I guess it really depends on the area and how generalized the forecast is.

Snow Surprise
So, my phone said it was snowing, and of course, I didn’t believe it. But when I looked outside, behold—it wasn’t snowing! Yet, I could feel the cold in my bones. Even though my phone and car said it was 3 degrees Celsius, I could see my breath, a sure sign that snow was imminent. As I was doing my reps at the gym, I saw small flakes falling. There it was, snow! It didn’t seem to be falling hard, and I didn’t expect it to last long. Indeed, it kept stopping and starting throughout my workout. It wasn’t cold enough for it to settle and collect, and the inconsistency confirmed it wouldn’t stick.

Driving in Snow
However, when I left the gym and drove home, the snowfall picked up significantly, almost like rain. I had to turn on my wipers to see properly while driving. For a moment, I worried it might continue snowing all day. If it did, it would stick and cause trouble for our shuttle service to pick up and drop off customers. As I headed to work, it was still snowing, and I managed to snap an okay picture of the snowfall. As I write this, the sun is back out and shining, so no fear of continued snowfall today. But it might start again tonight. I’m not a big fan of snow, so I’m not looking forward to waking up to a white wonderland tomorrow.

Snow Across Japan
Other areas of Japan have also seen significant snowfall. I’ve seen my friends’ Instagram stories from different places. Those living in Tokushima experienced rare snowfall not seen in many years. I never saw that much snow while living there. The more mountainous regions I’m used to seeing snow at occasionally have had snow for over a week now. How annoying! My friends loved it on the first day, but hardly anyone has snow tires in that region, just all-season tires since they don’t expect much snow. Hokkaido, though, is drowning in snow! Towers of snow have covered cars, and my friends are trying to dig their cars out. The pictures from Hokkaido are insane. I’m so glad to have left the heavy snowfall behind. I’ll happily enjoy the occasional brisk snowfall here.

Final Thoughts
It actually started snowing again, even though it’s sunny. It’s hard to capture in pictures, so I’ll leave you with a more cloudy picture I took earlier. Are you excited about all the recent snowfall? Or are you like me, dreading whether it will stick to the ground? Let me know!

Stay warm and cozy!
